In light of disruptions to train services due to an electrical fault, Israel Railways has decided to seize the opportunity and immediately commence vital safety works originally planned for September. This move is intended to prevent double disruption to the travelling public, both now and in a few weeks' time.
The works will be carried out at the heart of the railway network, between Tel Aviv Hahagana and Tel Aviv Savidor Central stations, and will include maintenance and upgrading of vital infrastructure components, including the 'heart valves' of the system that allow trains to switch between tracks and serve most travel demands.
During the works, which will take place between Wednesday, August 20, 2025, and Tuesday, August 26, 2025, there will be significant changes to train services:
Train services in Tel Aviv will be suspended and travel between the north and south will not be possible. Tel Aviv Shalom station will be temporarily closed. Trains from the south will reach as far as Lod, trains from Jerusalem and Modi'in will reach as far as Ben Gurion Airport, and trains from the north will reach as far as Tel Aviv Savidor Central.
Israel Railways emphasizes that advancing the works allows the existing fault to be utilized to complete vital upgrades and to avoid, as mentioned, an additional shutdown planned for September. These works are expected to allow the gradual resumption of service from Tuesday, August 26, 2025, initially from the south and later also from the north.
