Israel & Jordan agreed to apply electronic seals on containers moving via Israel to the USA

Jordanian security will check the containers and will apply an electronic seal which will enable the tracking and tracing of the container while on route to Haifa port
 
In a lecture given to an audience of Israeli freight forwarders during the annual CARGO CLUB meeting, organized by the Federation of Israeli Freight Forwarders, the head of the Israeli Customs Authority, Mr. Ami Segal, disclosed that a security agreement had been signed between the Israeli Customs Authority and the Jordanian Customs which will enable electronic seals to be applied on containers moving from Jordan via Israel to the USA.
 
According to Segal, Jordanian security officers will check the containers prior and during the stuffing stage and will apply an electronic seal which will enable the tracking and tracing of the container while on route to Haifa port.
 
Segal added that the newly signed agreement is important to both parties and disclosed that Israel invested not only efforts but also money in order to conclude the negotiation successfully.
 
Segal also informed the audience that a new container scanner had arrived to the Haifa port and that within a few weeks will go into pilot tests.
 
Segal added that U.S.-made radiation detectors will soon be installed at Israel's largest port and will help secure the shipping center against threats of nuclear terrorism.
 
The Israeli & the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration were finalizing last details which will provide Haifa's port with scanning technology to screen incoming and outgoing container for radioactive material.
 
The agreement is part of the NNSA's Megaport Initiative, which works with other nations to prevent the smuggling of nuclear materials through foreign ports, officials said.

"This initiative provides an important defensive element against the threat of radioactive terror," said Mr. Segal. “Once the system is up and running”, Segal said, “it would bring an added sense of security to Israel's largest port”.
