The board of Israel Railways has approved the appointment of Yaakov Marziano as Deputy CEO of the Passenger Division. This comes at a significant time for the company, as it experiences a sharp increase in demand for rail travel and prepares for years of rapid expansion in infrastructure and passenger services.
Marziano brings with him nearly three decades of experience in large-scale logistics systems. He spent the majority of his career in the IDF, serving in various roles in the logistics, command, and operational systems. In his last role, he served as the commander of the IDF's Equipment Center, responsible for the management, storage, and distribution of equipment on a national scale and in emergency conditions. He retired from active service with the rank of Brigadier General.
After his military service, Marziano joined the National Fire and Rescue Authority, where he served as head of the Logistics, Procurement, and Assets Department. He was instrumental in establishing a national logistics system that operates widely and deals with routine and emergency events alike.
His appointment comes at a time when Israel Railways is reporting a steady increase in passenger numbers and advancing long-term development plans. According to the company's forecasts, the annual volume of travel is expected to reach about 150 million passengers by 2030 and about 300 million passengers by 2040.
In his role, Marziano will head the Passenger Division and lead, among other things, the inauguration of new railway stations expected to open in the coming years as part of major development projects, including the Eastern Railway and Railway 431.
Moshe Shimon, Chairman of the Board of Israel Railways, said that Marziano's appointment fits the challenges of the period: 'I congratulate Yaakov Marziano on his appointment as Deputy CEO of Passengers. His appointment comes at a time when we are experiencing a steady increase in the number of passengers choosing to use Israel Railways' services. I am confident that his rich experience will lead to maintaining the quality of service for passengers, which will expand in the coming years to additional areas as part of railway development projects across the country.'
It should be noted that the appointment reflects a clear trend in Israel Railways to integrate managers with a broad operational-logistics background, at a time when the central challenge is not only expanding infrastructure, but managing a passenger system of unprecedented scale, while maintaining operational continuity and service quality.
