The Knesset economic committee approved last week the removal of a 1961 rule concerning the authorized length of a trucks.
The old rule specified the maximum length of 15 meters, however, over the years trucks grew longer and reached the length of 17.5 meters.
Drivers who were caught by police driving vehicles with length exceeding 15 meters were heavily fined.
The head of the truckers' union, Gabi Ben-Harushsaid that his union had to bring the case before the committee after several abortive trails to convince the police to stop fining truck drivers.
The committee's decision not only made it legal to drive heavy goods vehicles with length not exceeding 17.5 meters but also instructed police to cancel old traffic tickets to drivers.
