Matza and his fellow senior officials are accused of allowing businessmen to influence the appointments of senior officials within the authority in exchange for bribes
The Israel Police National Fraud Unit has, since last week, been questioning under caution Tax Authority director Jackie Matza and his predecessor, Eitan Rub, at the unit’s Bat Yam headquarters.
A statement issued by the police said that the National Fraud Unit had been conducting an extensive undercover inquiry into allegations of bribery and fraud by senior officials at the Tax Authority and private business executives.
Matza and his fellow senior officials are accused of allowing businessmen to influence the appointments of senior officials within the authority in exchange for bribes.
These appointees allegedly lowered the businessmen’s tax assessments and cancelled tax debts.
