In a statement issued by The Peres Center for Peace, Mr. Ron Pundak the head of the center pointed out that various meetings that had been held between Palestinians, Jordanians and Israeli businessmen indicated that there was an urgent need to set up the council.
The new council received, upon its inauguration, the full recognition of the authority.
Mr. Pundak told reporters that during the last few weeks the center arranged meetings between representatives of the council and representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Trade & Industry, the Customs Authority, the Ports Authority and its Israeli counterpart, the Israeli Shippers’ Council. The Palestinians were also given the opportunity to visit the port of Ashdod.
Mr. Pundak thanked for the assistance given to the Peres Peace Center as well as to the newly born Palestinian council from all business sectors of the Israeli economy.
