The Kinneret's water level on November 25 was 214.03 meters below sea level, a shortfall of 5.25 meters, amounting to 850 billion liters of water
The national weather service said last Thursday that rainfall this November is the lowest it has been since 1962. The Water Authority said that less water entered the Kinneret this month than in any November since records were first kept in 1927, and the Authority said it is working to ensure a sufficient supply of water to all Israelis this winter.
The Kinneret's water level on November 25 was 214.03 meters below sea level, a shortfall of 5.25 meters, amounting to 850 billion liters of water. The Kinneret is now just 77 centimeters above the Black Line - the level of irreversible damage, after falling 1.39 meters over the summer.
No rain is forecast at least until the end of November, and the weather over the next few days will be warmer than usual for the season. The lack of rain and the warm temperatures means that the Kinneret's water level is still falling, the Authority said - by about a half centimeter a day.
The Water Authority issued a press release late last week noting that "The persistent drought will worsen the condition of the Kinneret. It will lower the groundwater levels and greatly reduce water production of wells, some of which are already below their red lines".
