Israelis registered over 12,000 patents between 1997-2004

The rate of growth in the number of Israeli patents registered in the States exceeded the rate of growth in the number of American patents registered
 
The Bank of Israel (BOI ) released last week a report ("R&D in Israel: Successes & Challenges,") noting that from 1977 to 2004, Israelis registered more than 12,000 patents in the U.S. Of that number, about 4,500 patents were listed between 2001 to 2004.
 
The report ranks Israel eleventh in number of patents listed in the U.S. during that time.
The study which aimed to examine Israel's standing in the world of knowledge creation as measured by the registration of patents in the U.S. found that from the year 1977 to 2004, the rate of growth in the number of Israeli patents registered in the States exceeded the rate of growth in the number of American patents registered.
 
The BOI noted that the study showed a clear correlation between industrial expenditure on R&D and the number of patents registered in the U.S.
 
While Israel’s civilian R&D spending doubled between 1998 and 2004, so did the number of Israelis' patents in the U.S. during the same period.
