Finance Minister abolished customs duty on imported personal items

Private citizens will be able to purchase low-cost products from abroad tax-free over the Internet
 
The Finance Ministry abolished last Monday customs duty on imported items worth NIS 1,200 (goods + shipping costs via mail or courier does not exceed $325) thus opening an era of competition to Israeli retailers.
 
The cancellation of the duties was one of the Trajtenberg Committee's recommendations to increase competition and lower the cost of living. The measure will cost the Treasury NIS 50 - 60 million a year.
 
According to the newly signed order, private citizens will be able to purchase low-cost products from abroad tax-free over the Internet. Major items affected: sport supplies, clothing, shoes and computer games.
 
One stipulation is that the imported products are strictly for the importer's personal use, with the exception of tobacco and alcoholic beverages.
