Ministry of Finance sources noted unofficially that the total cost to the economy of the war in Lebanon will reach as high as NIS 20-25 billion
 
According to a preliminary estimate submitted to the cabinet last Sunday, direct government spending on the fighting in Lebanon, until cease-fire came into effect, was around NIS 12 billion.
 
Ministry of Finance sources noted unofficially that the total cost to the economy of the war in Lebanon will reach as high as NIS 20-25 billion.
 
According to the Ministry of Finance Government direct spending include:
- NIS 7 billions to cover military operations in Lebanon.
- NIS 1.75 billion to finance the Ministry's compensation agreement for businesses and employees in north of the country during the month of July and early August.
- NIS 3.4 billions in property tax compensation fund to cover extensive damage to private houses, apartment blocks, public & municipal buildings, private cars, and farms caused by Hizbullah's "Katyusha" rockets;
 
According to the Ministry, an additional sum of NIS 800 millions will be required to finance National Insurance Institute payments to IDF reservists who were called up for active military service.
