The Economic Committee of the Knesset, led by MK David Bitan, approved today the request of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to cancel the energy source regulations dealing with energy labeling for electric heating ovens, as part of the implementation of the 'What is good for Europe is good for Israel' reform.
According to the current Israeli regulation, there is a requirement for every oven to have an energy information label, while in Europe the requirement is only to provide information about energy consumption, without the need to provide a label. As mentioned, in order to align with the situation in Europe, the committee approved the cancellation of the unique Israeli requirement.
MK Avraham Betsalel, who filled the chairman's place, praised the reduction of bureaucracy and said that almost every issue encounters a reality of excessive regulation and he is happy that there is a request to reduce what is not needed.
The Director of the Engineering and Execution Department at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, Uriel Babchik, explained that 'this is another step by the ministry to reduce regulatory and bureaucratic burden'. According to him, the goal is to cancel a unique Israeli regulation for electrical appliances and to align with a European regulation. 'This will ease importers and marketers in selling the products, it saves them weeks of dealing with the issue and does not cancel the requirement to provide the information to the consumer', he said.
The legal office representative at the ministry, Shabbtai Albucher, added: 'This is not only the adoption of European regulation, this will lead to a situation where it is possible to bring the ovens also from the US and other places and it will open the market'.
