Dr. Ron Tomer, President of the Manufacturers Association of Israel, welcomed the Ministry of Economy and Industry’s decision to impose a provisional safeguard and anti-dumping duty on aluminum profiles from China. Speaking on behalf of Israeli industry, he praised the move and thanked Economy Minister Nir Barkat and Director General Moti Gamish for what he called a bold and responsible step.
President of the Association of Industrialists, Dr. Ron Tomer added: "The Israeli aluminum industry is breathing a sigh of relief, and thousands of households in Israel can now be much more confident in their jobs and their ability to make a decent living, after it was proven beyond any doubt about illegal dumping and huge damage to the local industry, there was no escape from imposing the duty. This is a significant and blessed step, and thus the State of Israel joins a long list of countries in the Western world, led by the United States, Europe, and Australia, which have already imposed tariffs of tens of percent on the import of aluminum profiles from China."
The Association also praised the letter of the Minister of Economy and Industry, Nir Barkat, to the Minister of Finance Smotrich, from last week, which they claim spoke for itself and emphasized the immense importance of maintaining fair trade rules for the local industry and preserving Israel's strategic capabilities.
"The aluminum industry in Israel has suffered for years from severe competition against illegal imports to Israel and now the ministry has put an end to it while strengthening the local economy, Israeli workers, and national security. The Israeli industry will support any demand and can increase production at short notice."
"The import of aluminum to Israel constitutes more than 60% of the market and will continue as usual from a wide variety of countries at competitive prices and fair and legal trade. The imposition of the duty will provide local manufacturers with the required certainty in order to continue and invest in new production lines and technological upgrading of the factories in Israel."
