The Central Bureau of Statistics ( CBS ) announced last week that Israel’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.1% in September. The September increase brought the total CPI rate of increase to date, to 1.9%.
Food prices climbed 0.6% in September, Fruits and vegetable prices rose by 4.4%, transportation and communications prices rose by 0.4% and housing maintenance prices rose 1.2%.
The increases of the above were offset by a 5.2% seasonal decline in clothing and shoe prices, a 1.4% decline in education, culture and entertainment prices and a 0.3% decline in housing prices.
CBS noted that the fall in housing prices this year had kept the CPI down.
If not for the decline in housing prices, the CPI would have reached the level of 2.4% so far for the first nine months.
In a separate press release the CBS pointed out that fuel prices rose in September by 4.9%, contributing 0.2% to the overall CPI index. Fresh vegetable prices were up by 12.5%, but contributed only 0.1% to the CPI.
