The counterfeit and pirated watches carrying well known brand names of Puma, Adidas and Nike were found in the 37 shipments
37 separate shipments which arrived through the international postal service and declared as “watches” mailed from China and interdicted by a sharp-eyed Haifa customs officer, were found to be faked.
According to statement issued by the Haifa customs 500 counterfeit and pirated watches carrying well known brand names of Puma, Adidas and Nike were found in the 37 shipments.
The Israeli customs directorate has made it clear it aimed at hardening enforcement efforts to fight counterfeit and pirated goods entering the Israeli markets.
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), in its report on the economic impact of counterfeiting and piracy, concluded that the scope of counterfeit and pirated is broad and expanding, and a notable shift is occurring from luxury to common consumer goods.
