It is understood that following the signature Air Slovakia will be joined by low-cost airline SkyEurope
A new air traffic agreement was signed last week between Israel and Slovakia. Israel Civil Aviation Authority director Udi Zohar said after the signing ceremony that the new air traffic agreement, which comes into effect in the summer of 2008 will allows more airlines to make scheduled flights between Tel Aviv and Slovakia's capital Bratislava.
Zohar added that each country can award two schedule airlines the rights to the route and operate up to four weekly flights.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Transport director general Gideon Siterman, it was noted that the agreement was part of the liberalization of Israel's civil aviation sector, and was aimed at increasing passenger traffic to and from the country.
At present only Slovakia's national airline Air Slovakia flies the route, operating two weekly flights. It is understood that following the signature, Air Slovakia will be joined by low-cost airline SkyEurope.
Zohar noted that, while few passengers flew the Tel Aviv-Bratislava route, it had good potential, mainly because of Bratislava's proximity to major European cities, such as Budapest, Prague, and Vienna.
