IAA mulls the purchase of highly advanced X-ray machines from GE

The purchase includes three elements: purchase of the automated X –ray machinery for a pilot run, maintenance and then purchasing the rest
 
The Israeli Airports Authority (IAA) is negotiating to purchase highly advanced X-ray machines from General Electric Security for Ben-Gurion International Airport. The NIS 300 million machines use advanced "Hold Baggage Screening" (HBS) technology when peering into luggage.
 
GE Security is today an innovative high-tech company that develops, manufactures, markets and supports Hold Baggage Screening Systems for fully automated explosive detection at airports. The system uses x-ray diffraction technology to precisely identify the molecular composition of materials in checked baggage.
 
The system utilizes advanced imaging technology originally developed for healthcare applications and customizes it for security applications, its unique Clarity technology enables checked luggage to be scanned by the system at unprecedented speeds with the highest resolution in the industry. Itdelivers 3-D volumetric images with exceptional detail that can lead to more effective identification of potential threats and increased operator efficiency."
 
According to statement issued last week by the IAA the purchase includes three elements: purchase of the automated X–ray machinery for a pilot run, maintenance and then purchasing the rest. The open question still to be agreed is the maintenance and spare parts.
