El Al Israel Airlines Ltdannounced last week that, effectivefrom ThursdayMarch 1, it would cut flights to two of its closest neighbors - Turkey and Cyprus.
In a press release the airline said the two routes, the Istanbul route, as well as flights to Larnaca, were not meeting criteria set in its businessrestructuringplan and that the move was part of its plan to focus on high-demand and profitable routes.
El Al presently flies three weekly flights to both Istanbul and Larnaca.
The airline insisted that the profit it makes from the two routes was low because of heavy security costs and the extreme seasonal nature of the two destinations.
