Figures published last week by the Israeli Civil Aviation Authority shows that at the end of January 2006 the five Israeli air carriers: El Al, Sundor, Arkia, Israir & CAL operated 53 aircraft.
Out of the total number 47 were passenger aircraft, 5 freighters and 1 convertible. The fleet consisted of 43 jet aircraft all made by Boeing and ten turboprop.
The report noted that over the last few years a constant growth of passenger jet aircraft was registered however the number of turboprop aircraft which serve inland routes registered has gone down compared to the numbers that were in service at the beginning of 2000.
The average age of Israeli aircraft fleet is 15 years. The average age of Israeli passenger aircraft is 14 years whereas the average age of freighter aircraft is 27 years. The average age of the Israeli fleet is slightly higher than the average age of the American fleet however it is much higher than the European average.
