Borovich envisioned creating bilateral codesharing partnerships to serve the region via the main European gateways
Izzy Borovich, El Al Israel Airlines Board Chairman, attended last week's Latin American Airline Leaders Forum (ALTA Airline Leaders Forum) in Cancun as the carrier looks to grow its presence in the South American region.
In an interview held during the Forum, Borovich noted that approximately 150,000 Israelis visit Latin America each year. Borovich added that although El Al does not have any plans to offer direct flights to South American destinations in order to take advantage of this market, he envisions creating bilateral codesharing partnerships to serve the region via the main European gateways.
He emphasized that El Al already flies to almost every big European city twice daily, providing a connecting opportunity for a Latin American carrier coming across the Atlantic from the other direction.
El Al currently operates an all-Boeing fleet of 35 aircraft comprising 737NGs, 747s, 757s, 767s and 777-200ERs.
