Israeli and foreign airlines that operate at Ben-Gurion International Airport in Israel have set up an emergency committee in order to fight against Airports Authority plans to increase the airport's charges. 30 airlines sent representatives to a meeting in Tel Aviv to discuss the plans. Three weeks ago the Israeli Airports Authority (IAA) announced plans to raise the passenger toll, which is currently USD13, to USD21.
The new charges are due to take effect upon approval from the Knesset Economic Affairs Committee.
The new 5 men committee is headed by Foreign Airlines Association Chairman Avi Friedman.
Friedman, Senior Country Director Continental Airlines – Israel, said that the proposed airport fees will increase airport costs by 51%.
